Objective

To design a new website that focused on the user as person from the community, not just someone who is already familiar or involved within the Overland Park Orchestra.

Overview

The original website was focused on the user as someone who was a part of the orchestra or at least familiar with it. The Overland Park Orchestra was looking for a way to make their website more modern and to more clearly display information to the public. Their main focus was to increase their marketing and build more of a presense at their concerts.

Initially I brainstormed with the committee member elected to work on this project on all of the possible information that could prove useful about the orchestra. We then narrowed these thoughts down with consideration of the user.

To focus more on this, I started with a competitive analysis of other orchestras of different sizes to provide insight to how they were presenting similar information to their users. This included the Kansas City Orchestra, the Olathe Orcestra, the Lenexa Community Orchestra, the KC Chamber Orchestra, and the New York Philharmonic.

In the end it was discussed that the site would initially categorize the information into a menu that consisted of Home, About, Events, News, and Contact Us. The next phase would add in a Support Us page that allows the public to donate. Lastly, a Members login access point will be added to allow the OP Orchestra to reach a members directory as well as a practice schedule.

Once the information was determined, I chose three templates from wix.com as possible design options.

I also suggested that they increase their marketing reach by contacting and connecting with the Overland Park City website to post notices of their events under the Things to Do section.
